5 TIPS for A Scandinavian Minimalist Decor

By Audrey Bailey, Real Estate Broker, Coldwell Banker Community Professionals, Brokerage @audreybailey.realtor

“It’s no secret that my decor style is eclectic mixing old and new pieces. I absolutely love to create a vibe when decorating and staging. I love the Scandinavian and Minimalist home decor look, here are my few tips on how you can achieve that effortlessly chic look in your own space.”

Dive into Neutrals

Clean whites, sleek blacks, calming greys, and earthy tones with light natural woods. It’s really a serene colour palette on the walls, furniture, and decor that sets the stage for a minimalist look.

Greenery Galore

Plants are like the icing on the cake of Scandinavian decor. Bring the outdoors in with low-maintenance plants like succulents, snake plants, and fiddle leaf figs. My favourite one that I often gift is the ZZ plant. Not only do they add a pop of green to your space, but they also purify the air of your home.

Soak up the Sunlight

There’s something magical about basking in natural light, isn’t there? I have a morning chair and an evening chair positioned to catch the sun. Place your furniture strategically near windows, opt for sheer curtains or none at all for a really clean look, and clear any obstacles that might obstruct those sunbeams. Let that sunlight flood your space to brighten it up.

Invest Wisely in Furniture

Remember, quality trumps quantity every time. Choose timeless furniture pieces crafted from natural materials like wood, leather, and metal. Look for clean lines and simple silhouettes that marry form and function seamlessly. Don’t have too many open-shelf type pieces. Less is more.

Declutter with Purpose

Let’s face it, minimalism isn’t just about tidying up. It’s about intentional living. Declutter your space regularly, only keep the items that serve a purpose and make you happy. Get creative with stylish storage solutions like baskets and bins to keep clutter away.

By incorporating these five essentials into your home decor journey, you’ll be well on your way to creating a minimalist vibe that’s as functional as it is fabulous.
